Connectivity is vital for iwi with highly dispersed communities, so when national telecommunications provider Spark asked UCG to install communications equipment, Audio Visual equipment, CCTV, and fibre connectivity to Marae around the country UCG jumped at the opportunity. As a result, Marae-based communications with whanau and hapu has facilitated remote participation in education, family celebrations and tangi, plus upgraded CCTV security.

The project was an initiative by Crown Infrastructure Partners, delivering on a Government commitment to support Marae connectivity, and was a major boost to Marae communications during the Covid pandemic.
