The West Wyalong Fibre Communications Pathway is the first of many projects that form part of a larger strategy to help support the growing renewable energy market.

Essential Energy is a major electricity infrastructure provider which owns, maintains and operates an electrical distribution network which covers 95% of New South Wales and parts of Southern Queensland. The company also owns and operates a fibre network that extends over 1,350 kilometres across regional NSW.

The West Wyalong Fibre Communications Pathway is the first of many projects that form part of a larger strategy to help support the growing renewable energy market. In 2021, UCG was awarded a contract by Essential Energy to supply all resources and material to survey, design and construct over 100 kilometres of new pit and pipe infrastructure and install over 125 kilometres of 96 core fibre cable between the towns of Temora and West Wyalong in regional NSW. The purpose of the project is to provide a communications service to the new solar farms that are currently being constructed on the outskirts of West Wyalong.

This project is an exciting opportunity for UCG as we continue our growth strategy to build and operate communications networks for its clients beyond the traditional telecommunication industry. Further, it is an opportunity to build a critical piece of infrastructure in regional NSW, and is the first step towards building a long-term relationship with Essential Energy.

UCG is currently delivering this project with expected completion in mid-2022, and we are looking forward to working together with Essential Energy to bring advanced fibre communications to remote regions in NSW.
